PM calls on ASEAN youth to drive development

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has called on ASEAN youth to take a leading role in driving socio-economic development across the region, highlighting their vital contribution to the future of the ASEAN Community.

Speaking at the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth on Wednesday, which included leaders from ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, and youth representatives, Dr Sonexay highlighted the importance of youth cooperation in achieving the goals outlined in the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint.
He also encouraged young people to build cooperation among themselves in various areas in a constructive and responsible manner, in order to contribute to socio-economic development
Youth representatives presented an ASEAN Youth Statement, which outlined their priorities and ideas for contributing to ASEAN’s growth and development.
The statement, discussed earlier during the 3rd ASEAN Youth Dialogue in Luang Prabang from October 5-7, stressed the need for more support for sustainable youth development.
The Prime Minister praised the youth representatives for their commitment and encouraged them to continue their involvement in key ASEAN initiatives.
The ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with ASEAN Youth serves as a platform for sharing ideas and proposing directions to strengthen the role of the younger generation in efforts to enhance ASEAN Community building and fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals.
