Lao, Russian foreign ministers discuss bilateral cooperation

Lao and Russian foreign ministers discussed and evaluated various aspects of bilateral cooperation in the past, indicating that their political and security cooperation is getting stronger by the day.
Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith met with his Russian counterpart Mr Sergey Lavrov at the bilateral meeting in Vientiane on October 10.
The bilateral meeting between the two sides was held during the Russian foreign minister’s visit to Laos, where he and his delegation participated in meetings related to the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane.
In his welcome speech, Mr Saleumxay expressed his appreciation for his Russian counterpart’s presence at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit being hosted by Laos. The summit will enhance the long-standing friendship, cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries.
The two foreign ministers discussed and evaluated various aspects of bilateral cooperation in the past, emphasising that political and security cooperation is getting stronger day by day due to this strategic partnership, close exchanges and mutual support in regional and international fields as also cooperation in many other fields, according to the Lao foreign affair ministry.
The two sides reviewed cooperation in various sectors such as finance, culture and tourism, education, cooperation in astronautics, energy, railway transportation and others. In addition, the two sides also exchanged opinions on regional and international situations of mutual interest.
On his part the Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Sergey Lavrov, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome as well as congratulated and described Lao’s hosting and chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024 as a huge success.
