Lao Brewery Co Ltd awards 150 scholarships to outstanding university students across Laos

The Lao Brewery Co., Ltd organised a ceremony to hand over 150 scholarships to college and university  students from across the country under its LBC scholarship programme with the theme of “LBC Sharing Your Dream-Your Future Starts Here”.

In the presence of teachers and students, the scholarships were formally handed over by the Corporate Affairs and Admin Director of Lao Brewery Co Ltd’s, Mr Sithixay Ketthavong, to the Vice President of the National University of Laos, Mr Sinthavone Dalavong, at the meeting hall of the company.
The scholarships were awarded to outstanding students who pay great attention to their study and have a good vision for national development, with no regard to their age, religion and race.
The LBC scholarship programme was initiated following an agreement by the management of Lao Brewery Co. They reflect the company’s intention to always support education and human resource development in Laos, enabling top students to continue and complete their studies at various educational institutions and to become capable resources to respond to the country’s development needs.
For 2024, more than 1,500 students applied for the programme, and were awarded to 150 students. Under the programme, the company provides a tuition fee of 3 million kip per person per year and a monthly allowance of 400,000 kip per person to recipients over a period of four to five years to pursue their educational goals. The monthly allowance is provided until the graduation of the recipients.
If a scholarship recipient does not maintain the required grade over the course of one academic year, he or she will be removed from the programme.
Mr Sithixay said Lao Brewery Co Ltd has been providing scholarships to students in seven educational institutions since 2010. This year is special because the company has arranged a new type of scholarship.
“We want all students to participate more in the programme. We want them to show their own skills and capacity on how to win the scholarship. This year, the Lao Brewery Co Ltd has increased the amount of the scholarship due to the economic situation, which is considered an important factor that has discouraged many students who dropped out of school,” he said.
In the past, students received only 2.7 million kip per person per year, but now they get 6.6 million kip per person per year, an increase of 140 percent.
Mr Sithixay advised the students who received the scholarship this year to make full use of the funding to enhance their education and become knowledgeable and capable people following their graduation.
“If you are interested in applying to work with Lao Brewery Co Ltd, you’re welcomed, but if you are not successful in applying to work as an employee of our company, you can also contribute the knowledge and skills that you have learned from the university to develop yourself and the nation, and we are proud to be a part of developing the human resources of the country,” he said.
During the ceremony to hand over the scholarships, the students also heard about the experiences of a former recipient of the scholarship, Mr Khamkeo, who graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts.
Mr Khamkeo opened two branches of his own photography gallery business as a result of the scholarship awarded by Lao Brewery Co Ltd. He advised the new recipients of the scholarships to pay more attention to their studies and to develop themselves as a way to make full use of the funding.
Since 2010, Lao Brewery Co has provided more than 3,500 scholarships to Lao students. Many of them have graduated and contributed to the development of Laos, with some of them working for state agencies and others for private companies and continuing their higher education.
