Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company celebrates the achievements of 17 maintenance trades apprentices.

LXML invests US$155,000 in training 17 Lao apprentices, offers jobs at Sepon Mine

Seventeen young people from Vilabouly district of Savannakhet province have secured skilled jobs at the Sepon Gold and Copper Mine after completing a three-year technical apprenticeship programme supported by Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML), which invested approximately US$155,000 in their training.
The graduates, including six women, have joined LXML’s Maintenance Team, marking an important step in their careers and highlighting the company’s efforts to develop skilled Lao workers and create sustainable employment opportunities for local communities.
Their achievements were celebrated at a graduation ceremony held at the Sepon Gold and Copper Mine on October 13, and attended by government officials, company executives, technical trainers, mentors and family members.
The Chairman of the Vilabouly District Administrative Committee, Mr Phouvanath Bounsiphom, joined LXML leaders and representatives of the Lao-German Technical College in recognising the graduates’ accomplishments.

For the 17 young people, the ceremony marked more than the completion of their studies. It represented the beginning of professional careers and an opportunity to put their newly acquired skills to work in one of Laos’ major mining operations.
The apprenticeship programme began in 2023 and concluded in August 2026. It combined classroom-based technical education at the Lao-German Technical College with practical training at the Sepon Mine.
Working alongside experienced employees, the apprentices gained hands-on experience in maintaining industrial machinery, electrical systems and heavy equipment, and developed skills essential to the mine’s safe and reliable operations.
The graduating group comprised 11 men and six women who completed training in six technical disciplines.
Four specialised in fixed plant mechanical maintenance, three in fixed plant fabrication, two in fixed plant electrical systems, and two in instrumentation. Another four trained in auto and heavy equipment mechanical maintenance, and two specialised in auto and heavy equipment electrical systems.
These technical skills are increasingly important not only for the mining industry but also for Laos’ broader industrial development, where qualified technicians play a vital role in maintaining equipment, improving operational efficiency and supporting industrial growth.
LXML invested approximately US$155,000 in supporting the 17 apprentices throughout the three-year programme, demonstrating the company’s commitment to developing local technical expertise.
The graduation ceremony recognised the important contributions of families, trainers and mentors who supported the apprentices throughout their studies.
Two apprentice representatives reflected on their training experiences and expressed appreciation to those who had guided and encouraged them during the programme.
For their families, the occasion was an opportunity to celebrate three years of dedication and the prospect of stable employment for their children.
The ceremony followed the graduates’ formal recognition at the Lao-German Technical College in Vientiane on August 21.
LXML’s investment in workforce development is continuing, with another 18 apprentices undertaking their final year of training during the 2026-2027 academic year.
The programme reflects the importance of cooperation between businesses, educational institutions and local authorities in equipping young Lao people with practical skills that match industry needs.
By combining technical education with workplace experience and employment opportunities, the initiative provides a pathway for young people in Vilabouly district to build careers while contributing to the development of Laos’ skilled workforce.
LXML reaffirmed its commitment to working with education partners and local communities to expand the development of technical skills and to create sustainable employment opportunities.
