AIPA General Assembly to focus on ASEAN integration, growth

Delegates at the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly in Laos will review and adopt 38 draft resolutions aimed at strengthening regional integration, boosting economic growth, and improving living standards across ASEAN.

The 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly will take place in Laos from October 17-23, with about 500 participants attending from ASEAN member parliaments, observer parliaments, development partners, and other guests.
The meeting will be held under the theme “The Role of Parliaments in Enhancing Connectivity and Inclusive Growth of ASEAN”.
According to the Chairman of the Lao National Assembly’s Commission on Foreign Affairs and Head of the Sub-Committee of the National Secretariat for the 45th AIPA General Meeting, Mr Sanya Praseuth, speaking at a press conference, the AIPA General Assembly will feature 12 major meetings covering political, economic, and social topics.
These include sessions of the AIPA Executive Committee, the Committee on Political Matters, the Committee on Economic Matters, the Committee on Social Matters, the Committee of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA, and the Young Parliamentarians of AIPA.
Additionally, there will be meetings between the AIPA Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretary-General, and a special session for Women Parliamentarians of AIPA.
Delegates will discuss and adopt 38 draft resolutions, including 4 in the political area, 8 in the economic area, 5 in social affairs, 2 related to women’s work, 3 on youth work, and 16 concerning internal organisational matters.
These resolutions aim to strengthen ASEAN’s economic integration, narrow development disparities, and improve the standard of living across the region, ensuring inclusive progress for all ASEAN members.
Mr Sanya Praseuth said the Assembly will focus on addressing issues of mutual benefit to ASEAN and the world, boosting regional cooperation and integration both within ASEAN and with other regions.
He added that preparations for the 45th AIPA General Assembly are progressing well in all areas and the meeting is expected to take place as planned.
He also urged everyone in Laos, including all residents of Vientiane, to warmly welcome the delegates and ensure a peaceful, friendly, and memorable event for all attendees.
