President Thongloun to attend BRICS and Developing Countries Summit in Russia

President Thongloun Sisoulith will lead a Lao delegation to the BRICS and Developing Countries Summit scheduled for October 22-24 in Kazan, Russia, in response to an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Summit, themed “BRICS and Global South: Joint Building a Better World”, will focus on cooperation between BRICS nations and developing countries in the Global South. The event will run concurrently with the 16th BRICS Summit.
This annual gathering has taken place since 2009, with the most recent summit held in South Africa. The discussions aim to address global challenges and explore opportunities to strengthen partnerships among BRICS countries and developing nations.
During the event, President Thongloun will also hold bilateral meetings with Russian leaders and other BRICS members to further advance cooperation on multilateral and bilateral levels.
According to the BRICS Summit Russia 2024 official website, under Russia’s 2024 BRICS Chairship, key priorities include enhancing international security, countering terrorism, promoting international law, and boosting economic cooperation.
BRICS members will also work to strengthen partnerships with developing nations, intensify trade, enhance financial cooperation, and address global challenges such as energy security and infectious diseases.
