At a bilateral meeting between the leaders of Laos’ National Assembly and the Belarusian National Assembly on October 20, the two sides briefed each other on their roles and achievements in socio-economic development.
The President of the Lao National Assembly, Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, said he highly valued the Belarusian legislative body for its visit, the bilateral meeting and its attendance at the General Assembly of the AIPA.
He said the participation of the Belarusian delegation led by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Mr Igor Sergeyenko, will contribute to strengthening the long-standing relationship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
“I highly value the cooperation between Laos and Belarus in recent years, especially after a state visit to the Republic of Belarus by the former Lao President, Mr Choummaly Sayasone, in 2013. Since then, there has a regular exchange of visits by high-ranking officials of the two side,” Dr Xaysomphone said at the bilateral meeting.
The two sides agreed on further cooperation in important fields such as politics, trade, and economic matters, investment, education, health, culture and tourism.
The implementation of several cooperation documents has not been productive because of the Covid-19 pandemic and other reasons, Dr Xaysomphone said. Dr Xaysomphone proposed future cooperation plans on the lines of the newly signed documents, and said the two sides will continue to exchange visits by high-ranking officials, commissions and committees for strengthening the friendship between the two National Assemblies.
In addition, they will continue to exchange lessons and information related to the role of the two legislative bodies.
The two sides will co-host seminars, study tours and virtual and in-person meetings. They will continue to push forward the implementation of various agreements, cooperation and investment projects of the two countries.
Additionally, they will support each other at the regional and international parliamentary levels.
The two legislative bodies will not only help promote the exchange of visits, they will also enhance mutual understanding of each country’s legislative mechanisms.
The signing of the MOU on cooperation was attended by various officials and members of committees responsible for bilateral cooperation.
