Vientiane, Moscow look to support Lao-Russian relations
The city of Vientiane is inviting the government of Moscow, Russia, to further boost tourism and investment in the Lao capital to strengthen relations and economic ties between the two nations.
The Vientiane city government is also asking Moscow to continue offering five scholarships annually to Lao students wishing to study in Russia and arranging festivals in each country to promote the respective cities.
The proposal was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Vientiane’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Moscow representatives on October 31 in Vientiane.
The meeting was held during a visit of the Moscow representatives to Laos and amid the Moscow week being held in Vientiane from October 28 to November 1, according to Lao National Radio.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the content of the 2001 cooperation agreement between Vientiane and Moscow, sharing insights on the state of socio-economic development and investment, as well as past exchanges of delegations between the two capitals.
In past years, the Moscow government has sent free Russian language textbooks to schools and higher education institutions in Vientiane to support language learning and cultural exchange.
With friendly relations between Laos and Russia, including Vientiane and Moscow, both capitals aim to deepen this relationship to enhance cooperation between the two nations.
