Lao, Russian travel agencies join forces to boost tourism

Champamay Travel has entered into an agreement with the Association of Travel Agencies of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia Federation, that will spur leisure travel between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in Vientiane on Monday by the CEO of Champamay Travel, Ms Sonethida Ounaphom, and President of the Association of Travel Agencies of Tatarstan, Mr Ramil Miftakhov.
Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Ms Darany Phommavongsa and other officials witnessed the signing.
Ms Sonethida said the agreement would allow Champamay Travel and the Association of Travel Agencies of Tatarstan to arrange travel by tour groups to Laos and Russia, enabling Laos in particular to benefit from an increased number of high-spending Russian tourists.
Every year, Russians travel to foreign countries in large numbers, with the number visiting ASEAN countries increasing day by day.
In 2022, 4,410 Russian tourists came to Laos but the figure soared to 44,345 in 2023, indicating the Russian Federation’s interest in working with Laos to promote tourism.
The visit to Laos by the delegation from the Association of Travel Agencies of Tatarstan sparks opportunities for businesses to provide more tourism services between Laos and Russia and to learn about the needs of tourists, and the best types of tour programmes to arrange to suit the needs of visitors from the two countries.
