Weifang Vocational College eyes education ties with Laos

Vice Dean of Weifang Vocational College in Shandong province, China, Ms Chen Meixia, led a delegation to Laos from November 4-5, to advance educational cooperation between Laos and China.
The visit included meetings with Lao educational institutions and the Lao Vientiane Mining Company Limited to promote joint vocational training and language programmes.
Weifang Vocational College, established in 2001 and authorised by the Shandong provincial Government, is recognised as one of China’s top 50 vocational institutions for international influence, service excellence, and teaching resources. Known for its specialised vocational training programmes, the college is dedicated to cultivating skilled professionals in China and abroad.
On November 4, the delegation visited the National University of Laos and met with the Vice Dean, Mr Bounsouang Panhgathongand, and other university officials.
Discussions covered each institution’s distinctive educational strengths, with both sides agreeing to pursue teacher exchanges, training programmes, and student internships in China to deepen academic ties.
The delegation also visited the Lao-German Technical College, where they were welcomed by Director Mr Souliya Phaxay and faculty members. Discussions between the two institutions highlighted academic training, partnership models, and business approaches.
The visit strengthened mutual understanding and paved the way for future student training, internship, and advanced training collaborations between the two countries.
On November 5, Lao Vientiane Mining Company Limited hosted an opening ceremony for the Lao Vientiane Mining Chinese Language Centre and the newly established Lao-Ban Mo College. Licensed by the Department of Education of Shandong Province, Lao-Ban Mo College will provide specialised training for Lao officers, focusing on vocational skills and Chinese language proficiency.
Since 2021, Weifang Vocational College has collaborated with the Chinese Ministry of Education’s Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Centre and Lao Vientiane Mining Company Limited to establish the Lao Chinese Language Centre in Laos, delivering language and vocational training for Lao professionals.
During the visit, the delegation also toured a mining exploration site in Savannakhet province to assess the skill development needs of local employees, laying the foundation for future language and vocational training programmes.
This collaborative initiative represents a commitment from all parties to develop high-quality vocational education partnerships and cultivate a workforce with technical skills and linguistic proficiency to support international production and cooperation.
