Phu Bia Mining showcases mineral samples at Presidential Palace Museum

Phu Bia Mining (PBM) presented copper and gold rock samples, and a 99 percent gold Phu Bia Mining logo, to the Ministry of Energy and Mines during a handover ceremony at the Department of Mining Management on November 4.
The Company’s samples are part of Laos’ mineral collections and will be on permanent display at the Presidential Palace Museum in Vientiane.
The Company’s 99 percent gold weighs 30 grams and is engraved in the shape of Phu Bia Mining’s logo. The copper rock and drilling samples were collected from the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation’s open pit.
The copper rock contains semi-massive chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), bornite (Cu5FeS4) ± covellite (CuS) hosted in phyllic (quartz-sericite-pyrite) altered volcanic tuff. The average copper grades of the sample can range from one to five percent. The copper drilling sample comprises a massive pyrite skarn with interstitial fine chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) and minor fine-grained bornite (Cu5FeS4) inclusions.

At the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, the gold rock sample was collected from the Ban Houayxai’s central pit stage 1 and is composed of white quartz veinlet hosted in silicified crystal rich volcanics and pyrite presentation as disseminated patches. The grade ranges from 0.5 to 3 grams of gold per tonne and less than 20 grams of silver per tonne. The copper and gold rock samples and 99 percent gold have an estimated value of US$4,000.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about the contribution of Phu Bia Mining’s Operations to Laos’ mineral heritage.
“Our rock samples come from Phu Bia Mining’s world-class Operations, and they represent the commitment of Phu Bia Mining to create positive economic and social impacts for the government and the people of Laos.”
“Honourable government guests and dignitaries who visit the Presidential Palace Museum will learn about the enduring legacy of PanAust, part of the Guangdong Rising Holding Group, while sharing the mining heritage of local communities in Xaysomboun province.”
Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, added “Phu Kham’s copper and Ban Houayxai’s gold rock samples are also important for knowledge-sharing and learning about the country’s mineral wealth that provide a valuable display at the museum.”
