Lao, Vietnamese presidents hold online talks

Party Secretary General and state President Thongloun Sisoulith on Friday held talks via video link with Vietnamese President Luong Cuong to discuss bilateral ties and congratulate the Vietnamese leader on his becoming the new head of state.

The National Assembly of Vietnam elected Mr Cuong as state president last month.
During the video call, President Thongloun congratulated Comrade Luong Cuong on his election as the new President, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
His election to the top post was a clear indication of the trust placed in him by the Vietnamese Party, state and people, the Lao leader said.
Mr Thongloun expressed confidence that with President Cuong’s deep knowledge, competency and experience, he would lead Vietnam to greater success and transform the country into an industrial nation.
The two leaders affirmed their desire to work together closely to further enhance the great friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
The leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in areas of potential and to push for the fulfilment of cooperation agreements entered into by the two sides. They pledged to extend mutual support and assistance in regional and international arenas in order to deliver tangible benefits to their citizens.
The Lao leader, on behalf of the Party, government and people of Laos, expressed heartfelt thanks to the Party, government and people of Vietnam for extending invaluable support and assistance to Laos.
In return, President Cuong congratulated Laos on its successful chairmanship of ASEAN this year and reaffirmed the intention of the Party, government and people of Vietnam to work with Laos for greater benefits.
The Lao leader invited President Cuong and his wife to make a state visit to Laos at a convenient time. The Vietnamese leader accepted the invitation and suggested that the visit be arranged through diplomatic channels.
