Think Tank talks mull ways to build economic resilience
A “Think Tank” session organised by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and The Asia Foundation in Vientiane on Tuesday was successful in advancing knowledge-sharing, fostering meaningful discussions, and generating practical solutions towards building a resilient and inclusive Lao economy.

Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Daovone Phachanthavong, addressed the meeting, which brought together over 150 influential stakeholders from various sectors.
The event was organised by the Chamber’s SME Service Centre and The Asia Foundation and supported by the Australian Embassy and provided a collaborative platform to explore strategies for enhancing Laos’ economic resilience and fostering cross-sector partnerships in areas such as tourism, agriculture, transport, logistics, and renewable energy.
Attendees participated in presentations, expert discussions, and a moderated panel session focused on developing actionable strategies.
The meeting featured presentations from experts on key topics, including ways to improve the investment climate through public-private partnerships, the role of tax policy in economic stability, the impact of intellectual property rights on development, and frameworks for attracting foreign direct investment.

This exchange generated actionable recommendations aimed at guiding policymakers, business leaders, and academic institutions towards a stronger economic future for Laos
The event was attended by the Deputy Ambassador of the Australian Embassy to Laos, Ms Benita Sommerville, and Country Representative to Laos from The Asia Foundation, Mr Todd Wassel, along with senior ministry officials, economists, policymakers, researchers, business leaders, academics, and representatives of international development organisations.
