GDMS Laos and the Ministry of Technology and Communication renew their 10-Year partnership in the LEED Datacenter.

First cloud services in Laos promote the importance of domestic infrastructure

The first cloud services in Laos are promoting local users with awareness and understanding of the benefits of cloud computing.
Global Digital Management Solutions, known as GDMS, is the first cloud service provider in Laos, with a long-term presence and experience in the local market including web hosting, VPS, VPC, Kubernetes, disaster recovery, unified communications, CDN, and others. They are trying to promote understanding of the domestic cloud to local ICT users with data sovereignty and privacy issues.

Media personnel receive training from the GDMS team at the Vientiane Times offices.

Recently, Vientiane Times was also trained by the GDMS teams and took the opportunity to interview the company.
Chief Technical Officer of GDMS, Mr Mathieu Ploton, said some of the problems that GDMS has faced regarding public and private cloud services in Laos are lack of awareness and understanding of the benefits of cloud computing among local customers and stakeholders.
“The high cost and average quality of internet connectivity in Laos affects the performance and reliability of cloud services. Regulatory and compliance challenges, such as data sovereignty and privacy issues, require cloud providers to adhere to local laws and standards,” he said.
Mr Ploton also said that limited availability and accessibility of local content and applications reduces the demand for and usage of cloud services.
Given these issues, GDMS has provided education and training for customers and stakeholders on the advantages and best practices of cloud computing, cooperating with the Lao National Internet Exchange, GDMS established direct peering with the main telecom providers in Laos and reduces latency and the cost of internet traffic.
“We’re also offering sovereign cloud solutions that are hosted and operated in Laos, ensuring data security and compliance with local regulations as well as developing and supporting local content and applications that are relevant and useful for the local market, including e-government, e-commerce and e-learning,” Mr Ploton said.
GDMS was founded in Singapore in 2019 and specialises in sovereign cloud solutions with a particular focus on sensitive industries such as government and finance. The company provides a wide range of public and private cloud services, shared hosting, and dedicated server solutions to businesses across various sectors.
GDMS understands the importance of keeping data local, which is why their cloud computing services are available in-country in every country where the company operates such as Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. Its mission is to help both the public and private sectors with their digital transformation projects by offering a local cloud infrastructure that allows for fast and secure transition to the cloud with high-quality services that meet the unique needs of each client.
GDMS uses VMware technology, which is the industry leader for cloud computing and virtualisation software and services, and also operates in a green facility, which reduces the environmental impact and carbon footprint of cloud computing. GDMS is hosting major e-government platforms such as iOffice, eCRVS platform, LESMIS platform, eBRS platform, and the National Blockchain Platform.
Mr Ploton also explained that GDMS provides consulting and managed services such as IT solutions design, IT audits, IT project management, IT migration, IT implementation and others. GDMS has a 24/7 Network Operation Center with staff that speak both English and Lao.
