LNCCI prepares for business survey

The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) will survey business units across the country for business development and to strengthen provincial economic governance.
The project is part of the Provincial Facilitation for Investment and Trade (ProFIT) survey index for 2023-2024.    
As part of preparations for the survey, a workshop was co-chaired by the LNCCI Vice President, Dr Valy Vetsaphong, and the Director of the Industry and Commerce Institute, Mr Viengsavang Thipphavong. It was attended by representatives of government organisations, private sector and international organisations.
The workshop’s objective was to review the questionnaire and identify areas for further development of ProFIT Index 3, to review the study methods, population surveys and random sampling designs, and to discuss the data collection plan in order to meet the deadline for the launch of the report at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in 2024.
The ProFIT index aims to measure how well provinces support the development of the private sector, notably through economic governance measures that are under their mandate.
The report will focus on analysis in six key areas – ease of starting a business, transparency and access to information, regulatory burden, informal charges, consistency in policy implementation, and business friendliness of provincial administrations.
ProFIT Index measures public sector economic governance for business development in Laos, and the first report was published in 2018. The second edition was published in 2022 and the third edition will be prepared during 2023-2024.
The workshop was supported by the Asia Foundation in Laos and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
