On behalf of the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as on my own behalf, I have the great honour to convey my sincere congratulations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Over the past five decades, we have noted with great admiration the process of building stability and security that the brotherly Lao country has achieved, achieving high levels of socio-economic development and playing a very important role in the progressive integration of the region. Today, we celebrate the heroic deeds of the Lao people who have fought valiantly for the growth, independence and sovereignty of the nation.
From the motherland of the liberator Simón Bolívar, I would like to take this opportunity to express my commitment and intention to deepen our friendship and cooperation with the Lao government to bring greater prosperity to our two peoples, and to instill in future generations a sense of patriotism so that they may be the driving force in protecting our glorious land and our beloved borders, and see prosperity, strength, unity, abundance and peace.

The United States is proud of our strong partnership with the Lao PDR, a country that shares the interests of our people. Over the years, our cooperation has deepened in many areas, including economic development, education, health, and addressing the legacy of war.
The United States looks forward to continuing to work with the Lao PDR to achieve our shared goals, and to promote peace, stability, and opportunity in the region.

On this important occasion, Canada reaffirms our commitment to further enhance our partnership. With more than five decades of diplomatic relations, Canada and the Lao PDR have enjoyed a constructive and friendly relationship, based on mutual respect and shared commitments to peace, sustainable development and prosperity. Canada was very proud to upgrade our Representative Office in Vientiane to a full Canadian Embassy earlier this year. This underscores our commitment to further strengthening our relationship with the Lao PDR and the broader ASEAN region.
Our relationship continues to strengthen through high-level engagement, including bilateral meetings between Prime Ministers Carney and Sonexay Siphandone at the ASEAN Summit in October. We particularly welcome the important role of the Lao PDR as Canada’s coordinator for ASEAN, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years ahead.
