Chinese company extends support for clean energy in Laos

The China Communications Construction Group (CCCG) will continue to collaborate with the Lao government and stakeholders to develop clean energy and infrastructure projects, and jointly support the development and prosperity of the Lancang-Mekong community for a shared future.
The collaborative plans were revealed when the China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), a subsidiary of the China Communications Construction Group, hosted a corporate open day in Meuangfeuang district, Vientiane province, with the theme “Building Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, Working Towards a Shared Future.”
During the event, the Deputy Governor of Vientiane province, Mr Daoheuang Nanthavong, commended CCCG and CWE’s achievements in Laos.
He highlighted the Nam Lik 1-2 hydropower project as a model scheme that not only provides stable power to Laos’ central grid but also supplies clean energy, ensures safety during times of flooding, and fosters the development of local fisheries and tourism.
He expressed the hope that the China Communications Construction Group and its subsidiaries would continue to leverage their resources to deliver more high-quality projects, contributing significantly to Laos’ economic and social development.
Deputy General Manager of CCCG’s Brand and Culture Department, Mr Zhao Jianlin, shared the Group’s remarkable progress in deepening practical cooperation within the Lancang-Mekong region.
He emphasised the Group’s commitment to leveraging its strengths in internationalisation, market expertise, and professionalism to strengthen emotional and cultural ties between peoples.
Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the China Centre for International Communication Development, Ms Yin Jie, thanked CCCG and CWE for their support in ensuring the successful implementation of the “Lancang-Mekong Book House Project” for four consecutive years, contributing to the development of education in Laos.
She affirmed that the China Centre for International Communication Development would continue to deepen Lancang-Mekong cooperation with the China Communications Construction Group to support youth education and growth in the region.
The event showcased the China International Water & Electric Corporation’s collaborative achievements in the Lancang-Mekong region through activities such as onsite visits to the Nam Lik 1-2 hydropower station, the fourth phase of the “Lancang-Mekong Book House Project”, art workshops, energy science classes, the release of the 2023 CCCG Sustainability Report in Laos, and virtual tours of Cambodia’s Kirirom I hydropower station.
These initiatives demonstrate CCCG and CWE’s commitment to sustainable development and community welfare in the region.
During the fourth phase of the “Lancang-Mekong Book House Project,” the China International Water & Electric Corporation, in partnership with the China Centre for International Communication Development, the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and other organisations, donated books to four primary schools, including Park Ngua School and Ban Poung Primary School in Meuangfeuang district.
This year’s activity marks the fourth consecutive year of the project, expanding the number of recipient schools from one to four, with a total of over 9,000 books donated.
