An ambassador’s love for the Lao people
During his tenure in Laos, the Ambassador of India to the Lao PDR, Mr Prashant Agrawal, has travelled extensively across the country.
Several of his trips took place under India’s Quick Impact Projects programme in partnership with the Indian Government, which funds the scheme.
These projects, which involve the construction of primary schools, health care centres and drinking water systems, are mostly located in remote rural areas, and serve to advance the development of grassroots communities.
Ambassador Agrawal said one of the highlights of his travels was meeting with the kindhearted, gentle, and smiling Lao people.
Their simplicity of life, and the manner in which they preserve their traditions, is truly heartwarming, he said.
Ambassador Agrawal is a keen photographer. His photos of the people he met depict the affection he received from them and the strong bond of respect and friendship he felt towards them.
He also found it remarkable that so many ethnic villages were producing handicrafts, handmade textiles and products under the One District, One Product scheme that are recognised as being specialties of their area, and help to bolster the local economy.
Ambassador Agrawal feels that with the unique and beautiful Lao way of life and this year’s ‘Visit Laos’ campaign, more and more people from around the world will want to visit to experience this truly special country and its culture.
