Lao-Translated Version of Korean Novel “Sonagi” Presented at the Renovated Korea Corner
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Laos held an opening ceremony on November 27 for the Korea Corner at the National University of Laos to boost studies on Korea and its rich culture.
The Korean Ambassador to Laos, Mr Jung Yung Soo, hosted the event that was attended by the Dean of the Department of Language and Literature, Mixay Soukchaleun, the Head of the Department of Korean Language of the National University of Laos, Phankhong Khannaphang, and students studying the Korean language.
The Korea Corner is a project funded by the Korea Foundation that supports the furnishing of spaces to exhibit Korean culture. This project began in 2017 in one of the study rooms of the Department of Korean Language at the National University of Laos, and this year’s project includes installation of additional furniture in the study room, and renovation of the Korean exhibition hall.
The professors and students expressed their gratitude for the creation of a comfortable environment to study and deepen their understanding of Korean culture.
On the same day, the Korean Literature Club, consisting of 10 Korean language department students, held a recital of the Korean short story “Sonagi (Shower)” in both Korean and Lao languages under the guidance of Professor Ms Phetnalone Inthavong.
A student in the Korean Literature Club, Mr Peutbouly Thongpasit, said that he could understand Korean emotions better by studying “Sonagi” and found similar sensibilities between Korea and Laos.
