Laos’ medical and Health training kicks off in China
Chongqing, China - December 02, 2024 - The Laos Medical and Health Management Capacity Improvement Training Course, a component of the Silk Road Scholarship programme for International Students of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, officially launched at Chongqing Medical and Pharmaceutical College (CQMPC) today.

The programme aims to enhance the capacity of healthcare professionals from Laos by providing them with comprehensive training in medical and health management, theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and cultural exchange. The 30-day training programme will cover topics such as basic medicine and health, practical training, experience exchange, theoretical upgrading, Chinese language, vocational skills, and traditional Chinese culture.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Vongvichit Phasouk of The University of Health Sciences of Lao PDR (UHS-Laos), Xing Yaxi, Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, Liu Yongsheng, CQMPC’s Secretary of the Party Committee and President, and other dignitaries.

In his welcome speech, Liu Yongsheng expressed his hope that the training would deepen friendship between China and Laos, foster discussions on development and progress, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for both countries.
The training programme adopts a “Three-Integrations” framework, focusing on healthcare professional competence training that integrates breadth and depth, theory and practice, skills and ethics. The programme features sharing sessions on critical care (poisoning treatment), respiratory and critical care medicine, and cardiovascular disease treatment, as well as a training system that consistently incorporates China’s medical education system and intangible cultural heritage.
The programme is part of the international technical and skilled talent training initiative under CQMPC’s overseas education brand, “Bayu Shizhen Institute”. The training aims to help participants gain a more comprehensive understanding of China’s medical and health sector, promote health exchanges and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, facilitate mutual learning of high-quality medical resources between China and Laos, and contribute to the construction of the Healthy Silk Road.
Over 112 Lao international students attended the ceremony, which started with a traditional Lao dance performed by the students. The opening ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting 30-day journey for these young professionals from Laos.
