First Café Amazon Concept Store to promote Lao culture

PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) on December 15 officially opened the first Café Amazon Concept Store in Laos, aiming to promote the concept of ‘The door to local culture’.

Representative of the Café Amazon Concept Store, Mr Phoneditha Soulivong. Mr Disathat Panyarachun, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR).

The café can be found in Savang village, Chanthabouly district, Vientiane.
OR Chief Executive Officer Mr Disathat Panyarachun told reporters at the opening ceremony that the Café Amazon Concept Store of the Lao National Circus is the first concept store in Laos.
It is a Café Amazon that combines the attractive environment of the circus with business, and aims to use both to ensure the success of the concept store.
The new café promotes a special atmosphere, lifestyle, products and local skills through the first concept store under the Café Amazon brand name, which is hugely popular in both Thailand and Laos.
The business features a creative menu that includes fusion and signature dishes. “
This branch of Café Amazon is different to the almost 100 other branches in Laos because the design has been created based on the Lao National Circus and the fabric used to make traditional Lao skirts. The highlight of the Café Amazon Concept Store is a special bar where baristas serve high quality and different types of coffee drinks that they have created using their own ideas,” Mr Disathat said.
The main goal of his business is to promote the Café Amazon brand not only in the Lao style but in a way that has greater international appeal.
“We want to focus on local things such as our officers as well as the coffee beans that are produced in Laos and used in the Café Amazon Concept Store in this village in Vientiane,” he said.

Senior officials from both sides cut a ribbon to celebrate the opening in Vientiane.

The CEO also said that PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited helps local officers to work and train with Café Amazon, and that some have gone on to win barista competitions in Thailand.
A representative of the Café Amazon Concept Store, Mr Phoneditha Soulivong, said they hoped to make the venue a landmark among local people and that many would want to visit it every day.
“Until now, the Lao National Circus has been fairly inactive apart from occasional circus performances, so we had the idea of using the open ground next to it to build something attractive that would encourage people to come to the site and bring it to life,” Mr Phoneditha said.
Visitors to the café can enjoy a range of high quality Lao coffee drinks as well as an intriguing mix of Lao people, along with a fusion-style menu and bakery items. Customers will also enjoy the thoughtfully designed décor and striking interior.
Mr Phoneditha also said the company had assisted the circus by carrying out repairs to items used in circus performances.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for circus staff who are not government officials and can only earn an irregular income, because we plan to open another rented building in the area to set up another business as well as support the organisation of more circus performances so that performers can earn more money.
According to OR, there are 92 branches of Amazon Café throughout Laos, while the Amazon Concept Store is the first in Laos and is expected to become even bigger in the near future.
