Head of the province’s Information, Culture and Tourism Office, Mr Thongsavanh Phosalath, said the total cost of construction of the radio and television station in Phouhuaxang village, Anouvong district, was VND118 billion, of which the government of Vietnam contributed VND115 billion and supplementary funding from the Lao government amounted to VND3 billion.
The facility comprises a four-room staff dormitory, broadcasting studio, and a 2-storey office building.
Receiving and transmitting equipment has been installed together with electrical cabling. The 10kW radio transmitter operates on the FM frequency 104.5 MHz.
The station broadcasts 15 programs. The 674MHz frequency television receiver uses the 1.1kW channel 33 as a digital system to broadcast six programmes.
Mr Thongsavanh said the radio and television station had been built to support the Party’s policies and guidelines and the government’s socio-economic development plan. The station was a valuable provider of news for the people of Xayomboun province, he added.
The Xaysomboun broadcasting station is part of a countrywide drive to modernise the media industry so that news outlets can provide news quickly, accurately and promptly, enabling useful information to be circulated among all local communities, he said.
The radio and television station in Xaysomboun province is also a symbol of the enduring unity and cooperation between the peoples of Laos and Vietnam, Mr Thongsavanh said.
