Phu Bia Mining supports road safety programmes for school students
Representatives of Phu Bia Mining (PBM) conducted a School Road Safety Awareness programme in Thaphabath district of Borikhamxay province this mpnth, underscoring the company’s commitment to the wellbeing of local communities.
A total of 388 secondary school students from Oudomxay and Somsa-Art Secondary Schools attended the two-day event, where they learnt about awareness of hazards and risks on roads while riding bicycles and motorcycles, and practised road safety measures aimed at preventing accidents.

The two secondary schools are located along the company’s important logistics route. Representatives from Thatphabath district’s Traffic Police Office, teachers and village authorities were also present at the event.
The sessions started with a presentation by the PBM Logistics team on road safety, focusing on key topics such as “Sharing the roads with other vehicles” and “Identifying hazards and how they may affect you”.
At the end of the presentation, the team ran a question and answer session with prizes for correct answers. In the afternoon, students participated in a mock scenario exercise by observing road rules and identifying driver blind spots and hazards associated with large vehicles while walking and crossing a road and riding a bicycle.
The PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about Phu Bia Mining’s priority on the safety of local communities.
Mr Zheng said, “Our logistics vehicles and our contractors share public roads with local communities, and we have a robust safety and training package that prepares our drivers to operate our vehicles with care on different road conditions.
“We continue to spread our road safety practices and ‘Zero Harm’ safety message to local communities, particularly secondary school students, and ensure that they will be more vigilant when travelling to and from schools and after school time.”
Phu Bia Mining’s Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, said, “Phu Bia Mining’s school road safety events are part of our regular engagement with local communities in spreading the company’s safety message. We plan to run additional road safety events for secondary school students who live along our logistics haulage route and close to our Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operations.”
