Public holidays for 2025 announced
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced the dates of public holidays and compensatory holidays in 2025.
The dates have been fixed in advance so that ministries and other central and local government agencies can plan accordingly.
The first holiday of the year is Wednesday January 1, which is New Year’s Day in the Gregorian calendar, the most widely recognised calendar system.
The second public holiday is Monday March 10, in compensation for the official International Women’s Day holiday on March 8, which in 2025 fall on a Saturday.
April 14-16 will be the normal three-day Pi Mai Lao (Lao New Year) holiday, followed by a public holiday on May 1 to mark International Labour Day.
Monday July 21 will be a public holiday for female government officials and workers in compensation for the traditional July 20 Lao Women’s Union Founding Day holiday, which in 2025 falls on a Sunday.
National Day on December 2 will be the last public holiday of the year and remains unchanged, celebrating the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
