PM opens new school in Phongsaly province

A new lower secondary school built by the Xaysettha Construction Company was handed over to the Governor of Phongsaly province on Saturday, in the presence of the Prime Minister.

The school, with facilities including a dormitory, kitchen, entrance gate and perimeter wall, was built in Sanamra village, Samphan district.
The handover ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the Governor of Phongsaly province Mr Khamphoy Vannasane, district authorities, teachers, students, local residents, and representatives of the construction company.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sonexay gave advice to teachers and students and thanked all those who had funded the construction of the school.
The new facilities were highly valued, he said, especially the dormitory, which would enable children living a long way from the school to stay overnight.
He advised village authorities, teachers and students to maintain the classrooms, offices and other rooms in good condition, so they could serve the local community for many years to come and give young people in the area a good education so they would have a bright future. 
The Prime Minister also provided warm clothing for use by schoolchildren, as temperatures in Phongsaly province are currently very low.
A company representative said the school has five classrooms, an office, four toilets, furniture, electrical connections, a kitchen, and a 10-bed dormitory.
Construction, which cost 4.1 billion kip, began in March 25 and was completed in August.
