Vice President Dr Bounthong Chitmany (wearing cream shirt) visits a smallholding in Kabouth-Xiengvaen village, Thakhaek district, Khammuan province.

Khammuan provincial Governor Mr Vanxay Fongsavanh and other provincial authorities accompanied Dr Bounthong on his tour of the project, where he was welcomed by the Deputy Director of Sino-Agri International Potash Co., Ltd., Mr Ai Yong Jun, and project managers.
The Vice President and his delegation visited an experimental chicken farm, a fish farm that is under construction, and viewed agricultural produce grown by local people, which they sell in the village market.
Dr Bounthong also visited models of houses built by the Makong ethnic group, and viewed a display of handicrafts and photos about the Makong way of life.
He then learnt about a vegetable growing programme which involves the cultivation of crops in the shade and outdoors, which is being run to provide employment for people who have no job and are living in poverty. The aim of the venture is to provide them with an income so they can make progress in their lives. The Vice President thanked Sino-Agri International Potash Co., Ltd. for setting up and supporting the scheme, enabling people to rise above poverty and even turn Kabouth-Xiengvaen into a model development village in the future.
Dr Bounthong and his colleagues also paid a visit to a newly built elementary school in Kabouth-Xiengvaen village, which was handed over and opened for use last year.
