The meeting took the theme “Accelerating the Implementation of the Results of the 9th National Socio-economic Development Plan Mid-Term Review for achieving SDGs and LDC Graduation”.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of Planning and Investment Mr Khamjane Vongphosy and the UN Resident Coordinator Mr Bakhodir Burkhanov and attended by more than 300 participants from provinces, ministries, international organisations, and other entities.
Speaking at the press conference which followed, Mr Khamjane said that in order to meet these targets the government would focus on the development of human resources to achieve higher standards, more strictly regulate aspects of economic and social development, and reduce the disparities in development between urban and rural areas.
The government will also strive to eliminate the use of violence against women and children, reduce poverty, and build the competitiveness of the domestic business sector by creating a more favourable business environment.
“We will continue to implement the 9th five-year National Socio-economic Development Plan for 2024, and the national agendas, in order to meet the targets endorsed by the National Assembly,” Mr Khamjane said.
More will also be done to apply appropriate financial strategies to support successful implementation of the National Socio-economic Development Plan and ensure the success of the economic recovery framework in achieving the set goals.
The government will also boost preparedness to deal with extreme weather events by strengthening disaster prevention and control operations and improving early warning systems, carry out risk studies and disaster risk reduction plans, and do more to help communities in high risk areas.
To ensure the success of this consultation meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as the chair of the National Steering Committee for the Round Table Process, will coordinate with other authorities to summarise and report suggested guidelines for the government to follow up, Mr Khamjane said.
