The company’s commitment to delivering innovative and efficient supply chain solutions aligns perfectly with the Lao government’s vision of attracting foreign investment and building land-links with neighbouring ASEAN countries.
During the meeting, discussions centred around the mutual benefits of having an Australian logistics business like Linfox invest in Laos.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his appreciation for Linfox’s interest in expanding its operations in Laos and emphasised the importance of such investments in supporting the country’s economic growth and development objectives.
Prime Minister Sonexay highlighted the unique challenges facing transport operators in Laos and commended Linfox’s achievements in providing training and skills development to its local Lao workforce.
Linfox, known for its expertise in delivering supply chain solutions specialised to its customer needs, reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Lao government and local customers to explore opportunities for investment.
Linfox has a long-term vision for business growth within the Lao market and looks to work closely with its government counterparts to overcome challenges faced by the transport industry and help build the logistics infrastructure needed to drive economic growth.
In addition to discussing business opportunities, the meeting also touched upon areas of mutual interest, including road safety, improving the environmental impacts of road transport, and social responsibility for foreign companies operating in Laos. Linfox reaffirmed its commitment to operating in a socially and environmentally responsible manner and is committed to positive business practice in Laos including workforce development and fair treatment for its contractors and suppliers.
Overall, the meeting between Linfox and the Lao Prime Minister at the sidelines of the Australia-ASEAN Special Summit signifies a significant step forward in strengthening economic ties between Australia and Laos. It underscores the importance of collaboration and partnership in driving sustainable growth in the ASEAN member countries, while also highlighting the crucial role of the private sector in supporting the region’s development agenda.
At the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit which took place in Melbourne, Australia from March 4-6, Laos and Australia signed an agreement elevating ties between Australia and Laos to a Comprehensive Partnership.
According to a press release from Australia’s Ministry of Affairs, the Australia-Laos Comprehensive Partnership will drive bilateral cooperation across four pillars that reflect shared priorities for the future, namely people, education and human resource development; economics, trade and investment; climate, environment and energy; and defence and law enforcement.
Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 identifies agriculture and food, resources and green energy as key areas of opportunity for Australian business in Laos.
The Comprehensive Partnership will also support Laos to maximise sustainable development in these sectors.
Laos and Australia have had a good relationship for more than 70 years since the first Lao scholar came to Australia to study under an Australian scholarship. The cooperation between the two countries has expanded in several areas. The two countries have cooperated together in foreign policy, education, infrastructure, security, health, economics, and development. The countries will expand the cooperation together after the two countries signed an agreement elevating ties to a comprehensive partnership.
