World Bank pledges support for Laos’ development plans

The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Laos’ development efforts, while commending the country’s progress in implementing its National Socio-Economic Development Plans and improving livelihoods.
The promise of continued support was made by the World Bank’s Vice President, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone at the Prime Minister’s Office on March 18.
Prime Minister Sonexay warmly welcomed the World Bank delegation and expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between the Lao government and the World Bank, which has spanned more than 60 years.
He conveyed his sincere gratitude for the World Bank’s continued support, noting that its assistance has played a significant role in advancing the country’s socio-economic development over the years.
The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation as Laos prepares to carry out its next National Socio-Economic Development Plan, particularly in ensuring macroeconomic stability, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth, and strengthening national development capacity.
Key priority areas highlighted at the meeting included the development of high-quality human capital aligned with modern-day technological demands, the sustainable management of natural resources and environmental protection, and improved preparedness for climate change and natural disasters.
The two sides expressed confidence that the enduring partnership between Laos and the World Bank will continue to grow, contributing to sustainable and inclusive development in the years ahead.
