Vientiane province attracts over 900,000 tourists in three months

Vientiane province attracted 902,057 tourists from in the first quarter of 2025, including 416,232 domestic tourists and 485,825 foreign travellers.
The most prominent tourist attractions in the provinceinclude the Nam Ngum Reservoir in Keo-oudom district, Vangvieng and Meuangfeuang district, and these generated an average of 754 billion kip of income.
The most prominent and popular activities for tourists are boating on the Song river, balloon rides in Vangvieng district, and trips to the Nam Leek House in Meuangfeuang district and the Nam Ngum reservoir in Keo-oudom district.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Information, Culture and Tourism of Vientiane province, Mr Sengkeo Sounthavongsa said: “The department hastaken the initiative to coordinate with relevant sectors, including the government and the business sector at the central and local levels, to actively promote tourismand to resolve obstacles to its development.
“At the same time, we have promoted a variety of tourist activities to attract more tourists to Vientiane province. Currently, there are 1,053 tourism business units in the province that have been granted business licences in accordance with the law.”
These units include 61 hotels with 2,129 rooms, 37 resorts with 1,206 rooms, 327 guesthouses with 4,838 rooms, 369 restaurants, bars and entertainment outlets, 39 travel companies, and 71 tourism service units.
There are a total of 238 tourist attractions, 62 of which have launched their services.
In addition, the quality and standards of tourist services in the province have been improved, and the province won six awards at the 2024 ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards. One hotel has got five-star status  while two hotels have four-star status.
For 2025, Vientiane province has set a target of attracting no less than 2 million tourists and is expecting to generate 1,820 billion kip as revenues.
In the past, the government and business sectors at the provincial and districts levels and the local people have jointly organised celebrations to mark the Visit Laos Year 2024 campaign and local festivals.
This was done to preserve and promote the culture, customs and traditions of the ethnic groups in conjunction with the process of promoting tourism.
Authorities have organised markets and exhibitions of unique local products to attract tourists and to boost trade.
In 2024, a total of 1,900,119 tourists visited Vientiane province, including 865,533  women. These tourists generated 1,372 billion kip as revenues.
