Government officials attend the launch of G-Chatv2.

Govt launches hi-tech communication platform

Laos has taken a major step towards digital governance with the launch of a next-generation government communication platform, G-Chat v2+LaoAI, designed to strengthen cybersecurity, improve efficiency, and modernise public sector operations.
The Ministry of Technology and Communications unveiled the system at a formal ceremony attended by Standing Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.
The initiative marks a milestone in Laos’ broader digital transformation agenda.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Technology and Communications, Dr Santisouk Simmalavong, said the new system will strengthen cybersecurity and safeguard sensitive national data, building technological independence by reducing reliance on foreign communication platforms.
At the same time, it will modernise administration through faster, more transparent, and efficient inter-agency coordination.
At the heart of the new system is integration with LaoAI, the national artificial intelligence platform.
Acting as an intelligent assistant, LaoAI is designed to support government officials by summarising lengthy documents, helping to draft formal correspondence, answering regulatory queries, and providing accurate language translation.
Officials say the adoption of LaoAI will significantly streamline workflows, reduce repetitive tasks, and save time, enabling civil servants to focus on higher-value responsibilities.
The launch of G-Chat v2+LaoAI exemplifies the government’s commitment to building a secure, self-reliant, and digitally public administration system fit for the demands of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
