Laos welcomes Iran–US ceasefire deal
The government has welcomed the two-week ceasefire agreed to by Iran and the United States as a step to ease global tensions.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson said the agreement, reached on April 7, marks progress towards reducing tensions in the Middle East and beyond.
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic hopes that all parties will show restraint and end violence to prevent further escalation of the conflict, he added.
The statement read: “The Lao People’s Democratic Republic welcomes the two-week ceasefire agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America on 7 April 2026, which serves as a significant step towards de-escalating tension in the region and the world at large.”
“The Lao PDR hopes that all parties concerned will exercise their utmost restraint, cease all acts of violence, and resolve the ongoing conflict by peaceful means in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, thereby bringing sustainable peace and stability to the peoples in the Middle East as well as to the world at large.”
