Lao enthusiast flies across the ocean to observe Defender 110 Trophy Edition
A Lao national who loves challenging driving flew to Taiwan to observe the Defender 110 Trophy Edition 2026--one of the world’s most famous off-road vehicles--compete in an environment of adventure, excitement, and challenge.
The Trophy Edition was recently held in every region of the world, taking place in Taiwan in the Asia-Pacific region, with 24 competitors from Hong Kong in China, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam taking part.
From the group of 24, the two winners will compete in the World Championship in Africa later this year, alongside drivers from other regions.
The two winners from the Asia-Pacific region were Mr Charles Murray from New Zealand and Mr Ron Ng from Singapore, who will represent the region at the World Championship, Mr Inthy said.

The event was organised in collaboration with TUSK, a strategic partner in wildlife conservation that has worked with Defender for many years.
“My attendance at this competition was a great experience and may open the door for Lao participants to take part in future contests. This is one of my favourite off-road adventure sports,” Mr Inthy said.
The Land Rover Defender is one of the world’s most famous off-road vehicles, having a long history, a unique shape and many other striking elements, and is popular with adventurers who are confident in all road conditions. These characteristics have been preserved through new generations, including the latest Defender 110 Trophy Edition.
The Defender has been a renowned name for over 70 years, with a notable 20-year history from 1980-2000. It was driven in the ultimate off-road competition, the Camel Trophy, an event that has captivated the hearts of those who love adventure, excitement and challenge, becoming a favourite among all age groups.
The Defender 110 Trophy Edition is a tribute to the enduring legacy of the Camel Trophy through a new Defender that retains the strength of the legendary vehicle, combined with innovative drive systems that are both strong and modern.
The current competition has been modified to attract attention and broaden audiences, in comparison to the previous competition that focused mainly on off-road driving with a combination of physical fitness activities, driving tactics, and teamwork.
Participants face a variety of obstacles that combine driving, adventure and physical exertion, such as driving on a road that requires precise control of the vehicle, route selection to overcome obstacles under time pressure, and team adventures that require heavy equipment to solve specific problems by creating usable structures.
In addition, there is an intense test of physical endurance, including carrying and pushing at extreme levels. Reaching each checkpoint along the course requires expert driving skills, well thought-out strategies, and precise coordination.
