How 30 years of BlueGrass Design Group is shaping the future of Lao printing
To mark three decades of shaping the nation’s visual landscape, BlueGrass Design Group Co., Ltd. recently hosted a specialised seminar on Printing Techniques and Paper at the Eastin Hotel in Vientiane.
This event was a cornerstone of the company’s 30th-anniversary celebrations, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to professional development and technical excellence.
Since its inception, BlueGrass has been a driving force in elevating the standards of the Lao design and printing industry, transforming the selection of paper and precision of ink into a high-value craft that empowers creators.
The seminar was led by three distinguished experts from neighbouring countries, who shared their knowledge and experience in areas covering modern printing technologies, design integration, and premium paper applications.
Their insights provided valuable guidance for improving industry practices and enhancing the overall quality of print production in Laos.
The event also featured a curated showcase of premium paper brands, including Takeo and Antalis, as part of the exhibition display.
The combination of world-class paper quality and leading-edge printing techniques demonstrates how fine materials and advanced production methods can transform printed works into outstanding forms of artistic expression.
The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness of the importance of integrating design, printing processes, and material selection in order to achieve high-quality, premium printed outputs.
It also aimed to inspire local professionals and students to further develop their skills and adopt international standards in printing and design.
In addition, the seminar sought to support the Government of Laos in its efforts to develop and elevate the standard of Lao products, particularly through initiatives such as the Lao Good Design Award (L Mark), introduced by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
This programme aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Lao products and prepare them for entry into international markets through pathways such as the Good Design Award in Japan.
The initiative has been supported through cooperation with the Asian-Japan Center (AJC) and the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), which have worked closely with government agencies to help establish and advance the L Mark competition in Laos.
Some 50 participants attended the event, representing a wide range of sectors, including government institutions, private companies, business operators, designers and university students.
This diverse participation reflects growing interest in strengthening the printing industry and fostering professional exchange across various fields.
Deputy Director of BlueGrass Design Group Co., Ltd., Ms Sompheng Phomany, said the company has continuously evolved alongside national development over the past 30 years, emphasising its role in supporting knowledge sharing and contributing to Laos’ progress towards international standards.
She expressed the hope that the seminar would broaden perspectives and encourage stronger collaboration among designers and printing professionals in Laos.
Among the attendees, Graphic Designer Mr Panya Vilaythong shared his positive impression of the seminar.
“The seminar was a very good initiative. It will help to improve my skills by providing me with useful information. From a graphic designer’s perspective, the biggest challenge in design is making ideas tangible and ensuring they carry real value in their final form. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the organiser, BlueGrass Design Group, and I truly hope that on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the company will organise more meaningful activities like this for public participation.”
Through this initiative, BlueGrass Design Group reaffirms its founding vision of continuously sharing knowledge and experience to support the sustainable development and modernisation of the design and printing industry in Laos.
