More high-level position changes in bid to improve governance   

The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party has approved more high-level position changes, which see the appointment of new acting provincial governors and ministers.
Former Minister and Head of the Administration Office at the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Alounxay Sounnalath, on Wednesday assumed the post of Acting Governor and Party Secretary of Champassak, replacing Dr Vilayvong Bouddakham.
Mr Alounxay must secure the approval of the Champassak provincial People’s Council in order to become a full governor, under the Law on Provincial People’s Councils.
Dr Vilayvong will take up a new post as Minister of Home Affairs, replacing Mr Thongchanh Manixay, who has been appointed as the Acting Governor of Bokeo province, replacing Mr Buakhong Nammavong.
On the same day (May 8), the President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, Mr Sonthanou Thammavong, was appointed Acting Governor of Borikhamxay province, replacing Dr Kongkeo Xaysongkham.
The latest changes in leadership positions are the second to take place within a week and are part of a reshuffle that involves several reassignments.
On Monday, the former Secretary General of the National Assembly, Associate Prof. Dr Linkham Duangsavanh, replaced Dr Phet Phomphiphak as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
Dr Phet replaces Mr Khamjane Vongphosy as the Minister of Planning and Investment, while Mr Khamjane has been assigned to the Prime Minister’s Office. Changes of position within Party, government and mass organisations are normal practice among Party personnel.
The reassignments are in line with changing circumstances and take into account the particular competencies of individual senior officials in relation to their work requirements.
