ASEAN Political-Security Community Council highlights achievements

​The 28th ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APSC) meeting, held in Vientiane on Tuesday, highlighted the progress made in implementing the APSC Blueprint 2025, reporting an impressive achievement rate of 99.6 percent.
 However, one action line remains to be addressed and is expected to be implemented by 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, chaired the meeting, which took place at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane.
This year's meeting was held under the theme "ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience" and was attended by ASEAN foreign ministers, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the ASEAN Secretary-General, the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste, and numerous other ASEAN delegates.
The meeting highlighted the significant work and activities undertaken by various sectoral bodies under the APSC pillar throughout 2024, guided by Laos’ chairmanship of ASEAN.
Notable outcomes of and activities conducted under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus, and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime were acknowledged.
Additionally, progress from the ASEAN Regional Forum, the ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic En,ergy, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights and other APSC mechanisms was noted.
The meeting concluded with a review of the annual report for 2023 from the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, reinforcing the commitment of ASEAN member states to promote peace and security in the region.
