Govt, company ink deal on cross-border transmission line in Attapeu

Construction of a 500 kV transmission line and the Phouvong electricity station in Attapeu province, on the Laos-Cambodia border, will soon begin following the signing of concession agreement between the Lao government and a private company.
The US$149 million project will see the installation of a 500 kV transmission line from the Phouvong station in Attapeu province to the Banna and Banthad stations, and across the Laos-Cambodia border.
The agreement was signed in Vientiane on Monday by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Sathabandith Insixiengmay on behalf of the government and by a representative of the concession holder, Mr Wang Xianjun.
The signing was witnessed by Lao deputy ministers, local officials, and company representatives.
The project will improve electricity transmission in the south of Laos, with the new high voltage transmission line able to transmit over 3.2 billion kWh of electricity.
Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, an official said this was the first high voltage cross-border transmission line to be built in Laos.
It will strengthen electricity transmission in the south of Laos as well as generate more electricity for export, he added.
