Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group builds regional growth

Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. is accelerating investment, innovation and regional expansion as it strengthens its position as one of Laos' leading pharmaceutical manufacturers and builds a larger presence across Southeast Asia.
Since establishing its operations in the Vientiane Saysettha Development Zone in 2017, the company has followed an innovation-driven strategy while expanding its manufacturing capacity and international reach. It now accounts for about 27 percent of Laos' pharmaceutical market, making it one of the country's largest modern pharmaceutical enterprises.
The first half of 2026 marked a significant stage in the company's development as it pursued expansion into overseas markets, advanced large-scale manufacturing projects, developed new medicines, and strengthened cooperation with government agencies and academic institutions.
A major milestone came in January when the Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group signed a joint venture agreement with Cambodia's Mane Group. The partnership established a joint venture company that will distribute pharmaceutical and healthcare products through Mane Group's network covering all 25 provinces and municipalities of Cambodia, including Phnom Penh.
The move strengthens the company's presence in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), where demand for affordable, high-quality medicines continues to grow. Cambodia's shared border with Laos also offers logistical advantages and lower transport costs.
Beyond Cambodia, the company is expanding discussions with partners in Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines and several Middle Eastern countries as it broadens its international business network.
To support long-term growth, the Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group is investing 1.5 billion yuan, or about US$210 million, to build a new pharmaceutical production base in Laos.
When completed, the facility is expected to generate annual output valued at 5 billion yuan, or about US$700 million. Built to international Good Manufacturing Practice standards, the factory will strengthen production capacity, improve quality management, and introduce more intelligent manufacturing technologies.
The project will also reinforce the company's strategy of producing both conventional generic medicines and advanced biotechnology products, while helping raise the profile of pharmaceutical manufacturing in Laos.

Innovation continues to drive the company's growth
Earlier this year, the Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group began industrial-scale production of ALI-TIRZEP (tirzepatide), an independently developed product supplied in a multi-dose cartridge injection pen designed to improve convenience for patients.
Tirzepatide is recognised internationally as a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, requiring sophisticated research, manufacturing and quality control. The company said the product represents an important step forward in its biomedical research and production capabilities.
The company is also expanding its portfolio of specialised medicines aimed at addressing major public health needs.
Research and development are progressing on ALI-LENA (Lenacapavir), a long-acting treatment for adults living with multidrug-resistant Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Following initial treatment, the medicine is designed to be administered by subcutaneous injection once every six months, helping improve convenience and treatment adherence.
The Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group has also received certification from the Lao Food and Drug Department for a preventive HIV vaccine, reflecting its growing investment in biotechnology and immunological research to support HIV prevention.
Another recent achievement is certification for ALIVOSO (vosoritide), a treatment for childhood growth disorders, including dwarfism. The medicine is expected to improve access to specialised therapies for children with rare diseases in Laos and neighbouring countries.
Supporting national healthcare priorities remains an important part of the company's strategy.
On May 13, Minister of Health Mrs Baikham Khattiya visited the company's second factory, where she met company executives to discuss future cooperation and review progress on expansion projects.
Discussions focused on the domestic production of psychiatric medicines, standardised production of anaesthetic drugs, and future development of Laos' pharmaceutical industry.
In response, the company is advancing research and manufacturing preparations for psychiatric medicines to strengthen Laos’ self-sufficiency in essential pharmaceutical products. It is also expanding research into stem cell technology and regenerative medicine to support future biomedical development.
Alongside industrial growth, the Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group continues to invest in the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals.
This year, the company established a partnership with Chuxiong Medical College in China to develop international pharmaceutical talent. The cooperation includes overseas internship programmes, customised training courses, graduate recruitment, and exchanges between Laos and China.
Representatives from the college visited the company's facilities in March to discuss the partnership, while a recruitment event held in June marked the start of graduate placement programmes. The company expects the partnership to provide skilled professionals as its new manufacturing base begins operations.

Patient safety also remains a priority
The company recently issued a public warning after counterfeit ALI-TIRZEP products appeared on the market. Consumers are advised to purchase medicines only through authorised distributors and to verify official approval numbers issued by the Lao Food and Drug Department, along with anti-counterfeiting codes on product packaging.
The Laos Alliance Pharmaceutical Group said it will take legal action against anyone involved in producing or distributing counterfeit medicines to protect patients and safeguard confidence in pharmaceutical products.
Looking ahead, the company plans to continue expanding across ASEAN while strengthening research, intelligent manufacturing, and quality management.
