Lao ambassador visits Lao victims of Siam Paragon shooting spree
Representatives of the Lao Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, visited a Lao woman in hospital after she was shot and injured during a shooting incident in the Siam Paragon shopping mall.
The Ambassador of the Lao PDR to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr Khamphan Anlavan, and other embassy staff comforted the woman, 28-year-old Ms Khamphiew Khamsomphu, who was hospitalised after she was shot in the shoulder.
Ms Khamphiew worked as a cleaner in the shopping mall.
The shooting occurred at 4pm on Tuesday when a 14-year-old boy fired random shots in the shopping mall in central Bangkok, killing a Chinese tourist and an employee from Myanmar, and injuring five other people.
A bullet lodged in Ms Khamphiew’s shoulder and she was taken to The Bangkok Christian Hospital for treatment, where she is now making a good recovery.
Ms Khamphiew comes from Don Khong village in Sukhumma district, Champassak province and began working in Thailand in June under the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two governments.
The Lao Embassy coordinated with Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Police Bureau to ensure that Ms Khamphiew and other Lao nationals who were injured were properly cared for.
Thai Prime Minister Mr Srettha Thavisin called the Lao Ambassador to convey his sadness over the shooting and assured him that Thai authorities would take good care of the injured Lao workers.
