The Days of Moscow in Vientiane festival opened on Monday with the support of the Russian Embassy to Laos, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Vientiane, and the Department of External Economic and International Relations of the Moscow government. The festival’s opening ceremony featured a screening of ‘Sister’, a Russian film. The event was attended by Russian Ambassador to Laos Vladimir Kalinin, Head of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture Mr Alexander Radkov, Advisor for Culture to the Moscow City Government Ms Elmira Shcherbakova, and Head of Vientiane Information, Culture and Tourism Department, Mrs. Viengphone Keokhounsy. Organisers aimed to use cinema and culture as powerful tools for fostering ties between nations and promoting mutual understanding while using creative expression to strengthen cross-cultural dialogue. |
The Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Litta Khattiya, the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Country Director, Ms Shanny Campbell, and other government officials teamed up to inspect the construction of bus lanes and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations under the Vientiane Sustainable Urban Transport Project in Vientiane on Monday. During this inspection, they visited construction sites in a 12-km stretch from Fa Ngum Park to the Patuxay Monument and near the National University of Laos in Dongdok village, Xaythany district, Vientiane. They also inspected the construction site for the main bus station at Km 16, where plans include a bus stop, a building, a command center, a repair station and additional facilities. |
Director General of Natural Resources and Environment Research Institute (NRERI), Mr Lienxay Bounmanivanh, joins World Friends Korea advisor Dr Dae Seon Kim, as well as four environmental scientists from the Republic of Korea and six Lao scientists to pose for a photo at NRERI’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment office in Vientiane. They attended the Korea-Laos Environment Conference on Environment Monitoring and Management, a first in cooperation between Korea and Laos in this field, where both sides exchanged their experiences and knowledge obtained from their research. |
A representative from the Association for Knowledge Promotion recently delivered rice, blankets, and agricultural supplies to officials in five villages in Pha Oudom district, Bokeo province, to assist families in remote areas affected by flooding from September 9-11.
