The Xonbouly district labour and social welfare office in Savannakhet province and the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation hold a training course on responses to flooding. The course explained the best ways to safely move livestock and people to higher ground and course organisers gave storage barrels to 122 families. Some 144 secondary school students on Tuesday sit tests at the National University of Laos after they reached the national level of a competition to identify the country’s top students, following tests conducted at the local level across the country in recent months. The exams are taking place from April 2-5. The candidates are in Grades 4 and 7 of secondary school and are being tested in a variety of subjects. If a student scores 7 points in a subject, he or she will be considered to be an outstanding pupil and appropriately feted. Those coming first, second and third in each subject will be publicly acclaimed and presented with certificates. |

Students from Vientiane Secondary School and instructors from the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education take part in a global creative convergence education camp in Laos on April 1-2. The event focused on science experiments so that students could broaden their knowledge of science and the environment. |
The Vientiane Center last week hosts an almsgiving ceremony attended by nine monks to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the shopping mall. The Vientiane Center was the first international shopping centre to open in Laos selling goods made locally alongside popular high-end global brands. |

Some 700 traffic police will be on duty on the streets of Vientiane during the Lao New Year holiday from April 13-16, on the lookout for speeding drivers and those who appear to be under the influence of alcohol. Police will be stationed at about 100 locations in the city, to ensure the roads are safe and prevent accidents caused by reckless driving. |
