Phu Bia Mining showcases mineral samples at the Ministry of Energy and Mines
Phu Bia Mining (PBM) on Monday (June 16), presented four rock samples and three photo frames to the Department of Mining Management (DOM) under the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM).
The company’s samples constitute a segment of Laos’ mineral collection, and will be displayed at the ministry and forthcoming exhibitions.
During the event, the representatives of PBM – Ms Manilath Arounlangsy, the Senior Manager of External Affairs, and the Manager of Government Relations, Ms Vannaly Phounsavath – delivered the samples to the Director General of the Department of Mining Management, Mr Bounyong Sidavong, and the representative of MEM.
The rock samples comprise banded pyrite–chalcopyrite ± hematite skarn (CuFeS2), a copper iron sulphide mineral that forms pseudo-tetrahedral crystals, frequently exhibiting striated faces and common twinning.
Bornite ± chalcopyrite-rich volcanic tuff (Cu5FeS4), another copper iron sulphide mineral, features bornite crystals that are cubic, octahedral or dodecahedral, often characterised by curved or rough faces. Both are obtained from the Phu Kham mine as required by the Department of Geology and Minerals and the Department of Mining Management.
Additionally, rock samples have been taken by PBM from the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation. The Crystal Lithic Volcanic (VTL) is a volcanic eruption characterised by an abundance of rock debris and minerals, and volcanogenic siltstone (SLV). These hand specimen samples are taken from the central pit at stage 1-530mRL (BHX Open Pit).
In addition, three framed photographs were presented by PBM. These images show Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, the fire assay and gold pour, mining operations, and projects aimed at enhancing sustainable livelihoods.
The PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about the contribution of PBM’s operations to Laos’ mineral heritage.
“Phu Bia Mining’s world class operations in Xaysomboun province continue to bring positive economic and social benefits for the people of Laos. These rock samples show the range of base and precious metals that we mine at our state-of-the-art operations and reflect the rich mineral wealth of Laos,” he said.
“As part of Guangdong Rising Holding Group, Phu Bia Mining is committed to working to international standards to provide a sustainable legacy for Xaisomboun province and the people of Laos.”
The Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, added: “Exhibiting these rock samples collected from Phu Bia Mining’s Phu Kham and Bàn Houayxai sites is essential for sharing information and helping others to better understand the variety and value of the mineral wealth of Laos.”
