Phomsouvan School promotes youth development through basketball tournament

Phomsouvan School, in collaboration with the Lao Legend Basketball Club, recently organised a 3x3 basketball tournament for youth aged 10 to 19 (U10–U19) that was held during July 26-27 at the school campus in Sikhotabong district of Vientiane.
The event, which attracted 90 teams of both boys and girls, was aimed at providing students with meaningful activities during school holidays and promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
The opening ceremony on July 26 was attended by the President of the Lao Basketball Federation, Dr Kikeo Chanthaboury; Deputy Head of the Sikhottabong District Education and Sports Office, Mr Oudom Soulin; and Director of Phomsouvan School, Mrs Nalithong Chanthabouly.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Nalithong said the school is committed to supporting student development through both academic and extracurricular activities. “This tournament provides a platform for students to stay active, learn teamwork and avoid negative influences,” she said.
The event also featured a range of exhibition booths, including displays of electrical appliances, agricultural tools and organic fruits and vegetables, along with food stalls and a booth set up by Phongsavanh Bank to promote financial literacy.
Mr Kikeo said basketball is a key sport that features in national and international competitions. He praised the tournament as a way to inspire the younger generation to pursue sports and healthy habits.
The President of the Lao Legend Basketball Club, Mrs Manivone Souksavath, said the club is dedicated to building a strong foundation for young athletes. “This event allows players to showcase their talents and prepare for future regional competitions,” she said.
Phomsouvan School continues to invest in education and youth engagement, reaffirming its role as a leading institution in nurturing well-rounded students through sports and academic excellence.

Girls’ basketball teams compete during the 3x3 Basketball Tournament, which featured matches for players aged 10-19. A total of 90 basketball teams for boys and girls aged 10-19 participated in the 3x3 Basketball Tournament.
