Incheon Gyeyang District Office of Korea – Savannakhet Province of Laos Continue Friendship through Education and Healthcare Support Projects

On July 4, 2025, a meaningful event encompassing education and healthcare took place in Savannakhet Province, Laos. This visit was conducted in collaboration with the local authorities and schools, with participation from a delegation from Incheon Gyeyang District Office (led by Mayor Yoon Hwan and 20 members), a medical volunteer team from Sejong Hospital, and a volunteer team from Kyungin Women’s University, along with Global Vision Laos Branch (hereafter referred to as the “Gyeyang District Delegation).
During their visit to Khao Kad Secondary School last year, the Gyeyang District Delegation received a request for support to resume construction of additional classrooms, which had been halted due to budget constraints, and to provide IT education equipment. Reflecting this request, they supported the completion of classrooms and a computer room and held a completion ceremony this year.
The completion ceremony took place in the afternoon, attended by Mayor Yoon Hwan of Gyeyang District, Chairperson Shin Jung-sook and Vice Chairperson Lee Sang-ho of the Gyeyang District Council, Branch Manager Kim Hae-gyu of Shinhan Bank, officials from the Savannakhet Provincial Department of Education and Sports, as well as faculty and students of Khao Kad Secondary School. The attendees celebrated the improvement of the local youth’s learning environment. Mayor Yoon expressed his hopes by stating, “We look forward to Lao students in Savannakhet gaining greater educational opportunities.”
Meanwhile, the Sejong Hospital medical volunteer team provided free heart screenings for children suspected of having heart conditions at the Savannakhet Provincial Hospital. Approximately 20 children underwent detailed examinations, and future treatment collaboration with hospitals in Korea is being discussed for some of them.
Vice Mayor Khounnasen of Kaysone Phomvihane City remarked, “This support has reaffirmed the friendship between both sides and has become an opportunity to further strengthen the foundation for intercity cooperation,” and once again expressed his gratitude.
Since signing an international friendship and cooperation agreement in 2023, the Gyeyang District Office and Kaysone Phomvihane City in Savannakhet Province have been jointly promoting international development cooperation activities, such as improving educational infrastructure, constructing schools, and providing medical support. The scope of these activities continues to expand through collaboration with various local organisations, including Shinhan Bank’s Gyeyang branch, Incheon Sejong Hospital, and Kyungin Women’s University.
