The 2025 Kasy district teacher’s capacity building workshop ended successfully.

KOICA and Global Vision boost education quality in Kasy district with teachers’ capacity building workshop

Sixty teachers from five high schools in Kasy district of Vientiane province completed a three-day training workshop aimed at strengthening teaching capacity and integrating digital skills into classrooms, marking an important step toward improving education quality in the region.
The 2025 Kasy District Teacher’s Capacity Building Workshop, held from August 4 to 6 at the Kasy Cultural Education Centre, was organised by Global Vision with  sponsorship from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The programme focused on student-centred teaching methods and ICT skills, equipping teachers with practical tools to better manage classrooms and deliver more engaging lessons.

Delivering the opening remarks, the Head of the Kasy District Education and Sports Office, Mr Layu Seanjaivout, underlined the importance of empowering teachers.
“Global Vision has provided lectures on student-centred classes and ICT skills to improve teachers’ capacity in the district. These topics will help teachers gain new skills, fresh ideas and practical tools they can use in their everyday teaching,” he said.
The Global Vision Project Manager, Ms Bomi Jang, emphasised the long-term value of such initiatives, drawing lessons from South Korea’s own development.
“South Korea was able to improve its education with the effort of teachers. Lao education also has potential and requires improvements and efforts from teachers. I hope that this workshop can help build the capacity of teachers in Kasy district,” she said.
On the first day, teachers were introduced to the concept of student-centred classrooms by Professor Kongsy Joulamany from the National University of Laos. The session highlighted differences between traditional teacher-centred methods and modern, learner-focused approaches, as well as techniques for designing effective lesson plans and evaluating student outcomes.
The final two days were dedicated to ICT skill development, responding to teachers’ demand for more advanced training following last year’s workshop.
Two trainers, Viengkhone Saenvilay and Vilayphone Khammekoun from Lao IT Service, delivered in-depth sessions on Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, enabling teachers to strengthen classroom management and create digital learning materials.
For many participants, exposure to AI tools was particularly transformative.
“I was able to learn new concepts, such as AI, which was a memorable experience for me and other teachers. Now, I can implement new skills for assessing learning outcomes and creating student-centred curriculum. Thanks to Global Vision, teachers in Kasy district received an opportunity in learning,” one of the teachers in the workshop said.
Global Vision hopes teachers use the knowledge and skills learned through the workshop to improve the education of Kasy district.
With the support of KOICA, Global Vision has provided and supported improvements in the learning environment (construction of an education centre and teacher support), extracurricular programmes, career exploration, and parent awareness education in Kasy district since 2021, and plans to continue this support from 2023 to 2026.
