China’s white paper shedding directions for building community with shared global future

Beijing, China: China on Tuesday released a white paper outlining the path to build a global community with a shared future in order to enhance the international community’s ability to work together for better Cooperation on global development.
Beijing is hoping the white paper, titled “A Global Community of Shared Future: China’s Proposals and Actions”, will serve as a vision to guide actions that will determine the future, and be turned into a road map by the world community so that the objectives can be achieved step by step.
As part of the event to mark the release of the document, China’s State Council Information Office held a news conference that was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Wang Yi, and other high-ranking officials from relevant ministries,  Central Communist Party of China, National Reform Commission and China International Cooperation Agency.
Speaking at the event, Mr Wang said, “The white paper is an important document that systematically illustrates the theories and practices for building a community with a shared future for mankind. Its release is an important element in implementing President Xi Jinping’s thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era and his thoughts on diplomacy.”
Mr Wang hoped the document will help people from across sectors and the international community to better understand the significance of a community with a shared future for mankind, and the overall goal of China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
“This marks the 10th anniversary of the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, which was pushed forward by President Xi Jinping 10 years ago,” he said, noting that this vision has continually contributed to multilateral cooperation with the world community, especially the Belt and Road cooperation and other global initiative platforms.
“Over the past decade, it’s been a journey with a full vision of what we’ve achieved, and it has proven once again that building a community with a shared future for mankind is the right choice, once it’s made based on a keen understanding of history and promoting human development,” Mr Wang said.
The white paper was released in eight languages to enable a clearer and better understanding of the five-point proposal for building a global community with a shared future in the areas of partnerships, security, environment, development, inter-civilisation exchanges, and ecosystem.
Building a global community for a shared future is China’s proposed strategy for reforming and improving the international governance system.
This does not mean that the international system should be dismantled or started afresh. Rather, it envisages promoting greater democracy in international relations and making global governance more just and equitable, the white paper said.
This important vision reflects the broadest common aspiration of the peoples of all countries in pursuit of peace, development and stability, and the broadest consensus among countries with different cultural backgrounds and at different stages of development, the document explained.
Bounfaeng Phaymanivong, a journalist with Lao Press in Foreign Languages (Vientiane Times), is taking part in a four-month China Asia Pacific Press Centre 2023 Programme as one of more than 80 media personnel from almost 70 countries. The programme has been set up by the China Public Diplomacy Association under the supervision of the China International Press Communication Centre.
