Vientiane Mayor orders changes in traffic flow

Changes will be made to the traffic flow in Vientiane, mainly on roads near the Mekong River, in an attempt to ease traffic congestion during rush hours.
The changes will be made at roads in Chanthabouly district, following instructions issued by the Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone, on September 27.
The move aims to reroute traffic in ways that reduce congestion and accidents, making travel through the city easier and safer for motorists.
The traffic flow will change on the Mekong riverside from Pakpasak junction to Thadeua Road (four junction at Lao-German collage). This road was one-way in the past but will now change to two-way traffic flow.
The Quai Fa Ngum Road from Pakpasak junction to Thakhao will change from two-way traffic flow to one-way.
Sithan Road from Setthathirath Road to Pakpasak junction and Khounboulom Road from the roundabout on the Mekong riverside to Samsenthai Road will both have one-way traffic flow.
Chao Anou Road from Khounboulom to Quai Fa Ngum Road and Sihom from Setthathilath Road to Samsenthai Road will also change to one-way.
In addition, many alleys and small roads in the city will be improved to facilitate the better flow of traffic.
Following the instructions issued by the Mayor, authorities will install new traffic signs, especially one-way traffic direction signs on roads.
Motorists should be careful while driving on roads on the Mekong riverside and other alleys in Chanthabouly district, and they should especially pay attention to traffic signs installed along roads to avoid affecting the flow of traffic during these changes.
