President of the Lao Red Cross, Mr Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh, and his staff on Friday hand over cash worth 1,188,300,000 kip donated by the Swiss Red Cross to assist households who suffered losses during tropical storm Wipha. Management staff from the Mother and Newborn Hospital and New Hope Sole Co., Ltd. on Sunday attend the opening of an assisted reproductive technology fertility treatment programme, which involves in vitro fertilisation. The hospital and the company are joining forces to assist couples who are unable to conceive naturally. The opening ceremony was attended by former Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. (Hon.) Dr Bunfeng Phoummalaysith, the Director of New Hope Sole Co., Ltd., Mr Anixay Sukhavong, Director of the Mother and Newborn Hospital, Dr Sivanhxay Chanthavongsak, hospital managers, and medical staff. In 2019, the Mother and Child Hospital in Vientiane obtained successful results from in vitro fertilisation treatments using intracytoplasmic sperm injections.

Repairs are under way to a 6km section of road in Xae village in Soukhouma district, Champasak province, at a cost of about 4.99 billion kip. The work is funded by the province and scheduled for completion in February.                           --Photo Pathetlao
