Condolences flow in amid flood rescue and relief efforts

Condolences over the dam burst and resulting flood in Attapeu province have been sent by foreign leaders to their Lao counterparts.   
Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, representing the people of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and on his own behalf, on July 25 sent a message to President Bounnhang Vorachit to express his great sadness over the disaster, which caused the loss of many lives.
“I have sympathy with the bereaved people, and I hope those who have been affected will recover very soon,” President Jeenbekov said in the message.
On the same day, Croat President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, also representing the people of the Republic of Croatia and on her own behalf, sent a letter to President Bounnhang.
She extended profound condolences to those affected by the disaster and hoped for strength on the part of the rescue teams.
“Amid the sadness, I extend my profound condolences and sympathy to all Lao people, especially those who have lost loved ones. Your Excellency Mr President, I have deepest sympathy with the families of the victims of this tragedy,” the letter said.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, representing the ministry and on his own behalf, sent a message of condolence to Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith.
“I extend the deepest sympathy of the Serbian people to the families of the victims, and hope that the situation will very soon be restored to normal,” the message said.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on July 27 sent a message to Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith to extend condolences over the tragedy in Attapeu province.
“I extend deepest sympathy to Your Excellency and the Lao people at this difficult time,” the message read.
