Thailand hosts visit by region’s media ahead of taking Asean chair in 2019

Programme participants take part in a group discussion at the Thai Institute of Directors in Bangkok, Thailand.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week hosted a familiarisation visit to the country by media from the Asean+3 countries, aiming to teach them about the country’s culture, history, and future direction.
Through the Network for Information Communication Cooperation and Connectivity, Thailand sought to brief journalists on the country’s plans for regional development before it assumes the Asean Chair in 2019. Thailand’s goal as it takes on this role is to drive Asean forwards in ways that achieve the greatest benefits for Thai and other Asean citizens.
The programme in Bangkok took place from September 1-6 and was attended by bloggers and new media staff from countries in the region.
Some 19 participants attended this interesting event, all coming from different areas of the media and working in diverse fields such as lifestyle, travel, online press, photography, reporting, music, fashion, beauty, business and the stock market.
They all shared their experiences of their blog, how to get lots of followers, and how to make money from it. Keo Kounila from Cambodia said she ran her own travel agency and had amassed followers by running a business blog.
As part of the programme, participants visited the Asean Cultural Centre which opened in 2015. This dynamic centre features the Joe Louis Thai Puppet Theatre.
All in all the programme was very successful in its objective of creating a stronger media network in the region and familiarising media personnel with the highlights of Thai culture.
Friendly relations between the participating countries were reinforced, laying a stronger foundation for people-to-people interactions in the Asean+3 countries in the years to come.
